The Scamander Conservation Area free camping area is located on Tasmania's sunny east coast in an area that stretches along the east coast from Diana's Basin in the North to Falmouth in the South. There are two main campgrounds in this area: Shelly Point and Paddy's Island camping area, which is accessed via signposted access off the A3 Highway, app. 2.5 kilometres north of the small seaside town of Beaumaris. Please note you must carry your own drinking water and firewood. Shelly Point also offers free camping Scamander, with access signposted off the A3 highway, located 2 kilometres south of Beaumaris. From here you will travel 400 metres into a camping area that is sheltered amongst natural vegetation. This camping area is suitable for caravans and campervans, as long as they are not too big. There is also a day-use area. You must carry your own firewood and drinking water. The pristine white sands beaches are a major attraction in this part of Tassie and offer a range of activities including swimming, surfing and fishing. The Scamander River is renowned for bream fishing - offshore, dolphins and whales during migration season can be spotted from the beach. See Fishing Scamander Jetty. No Charges - Max. Stay 4 weeks.
