Listing Details

The Sandy Cape campground is one of several un-serviced campsites available in the Arthur Pieman Conservation Area - there are also three other serviced campsites within the Conservation Area being Peppermint Campground, Manuka Campground, and Prickly Wattle. The Arthur Pieman Conservation Area is a  spectacular, 103,000+ hectare reserve in northwest Tasmania. The reserve contains spectacular coastal landscapes, a range of native wildlife including birds and a rich history of Aboriginal cultural heritage, and significant ecosystems. To access the Sandy Cape camping area from the north, you will find the Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area begins just south of the tiny town of Marrawah, where the C214 road leads toward Arthur River and beyond. From the south from Corinna, the Western Explorer (C249) leads up the eastern side of the reserve to the junction of the C214 which leads west to Couta Rocks on the wild west coast. At Corinna, a vehicle barge (FATBOY) crosses the Pieman River. The service operates on demand between 9 am - 5 pm in winter and 9 am - 7 pm in summer. Standard cars can travel along the main arterial roads of this region from Corinna through to Couta Rocks, and from Marrawah to Temma. The roads are gravel, but their condition is generally pretty good at most times of the year. There is no access for conventional vehicles to the southern part of the Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area - this is 4WD only. Camping Fees are app. $6 per site per day based on 2 adults with kids up to 17 at no cost (please have cash). There is a maximum of 6 persons per site and weekly and monthly rates are available. You don't need a Tasmanian National Parks Pass in this area. To camp in this area, you need to be fully self-contained. At Sandy Cape campground, all camping is informal and there are no facilities. It is recommended to bring your own camp showers, toilet, and a fuel fire. There are no powered sites available.
