Marrawah Camping

Listing Details

The camping area at Green Point Marrawah is one of the best campsites in Tasmania but is very small. Green Point Beach Marrawah Tasmania, which has been voted one of the three best surfing beaches in Australia, is located app. 2km from Marrawah and has a small free camping area. There are lots of Aboriginal rock carvings, especially around Green Point, Preminghana and West Point near Marrawah Tasmania. There is limited accommodation, although the isolation is what makes Marrawah special. There is a large surfing and windsurfing competition held in the area each year, as the surf is world-class. The Circular Head region of Tasmania on the far North West Coast of Tasmania is often overlooked area on the tourist map for many mainland visitors, as they are usually directed through travel agents to the 'popular' tourist routes such as Cradle Mountain, Port Arthur, Freycinet National Park, Hobart, Launceston, the Gordon River, etc. This area of Tasmania features some of the cleanest air in the world, and some of Tasmania's most spectacular scenery. Fires are not permitted - carry your own food and freshwater - there are water taps, however, it is recommended that you boil water before drinking.  There is a cold water outdoor shower. Best suited for smaller vehicles such as campervans, small caravans, and rooftop tents. There is a small area suitable for tent-based camping.

Be aware, however, the weather in this part of Tasmania can be very unpredictable and challenging so please make sure you have adequate protection if camping in tents. There are no fees to camp at Marrawah. PLEASE NOTE: This camping area gets very busy during summer holidays, and particularly over the Christmas New Year and Easter breaks, and on long weekends during warmer months. As it is only a small camping area, be prepared as there are limited camping options in this reasonably remote part of Tasmania. Green Point is the end of the road heading west and features a grassy camping area that directly faces onto wild surf beaches, where huge ocean swells roll into the beach. It is important that you bring adequate shelter as the campground is open and exposed. Head to Marrawah, app. 50 km west of Smithton on the Bass Hwy (A2). Turn right into Comeback Rd (C215) and then left onto Green Point Rd, which leads you down to the beachside campground, 2 km from the turn-off.

This campground is meant for light campers and officially only for one night stay. There are other paid options in the area for longer stay. Also being remote means there are no rubbish separating facilities and recycling should be taken with you and dealt with properly. Also there are no open fires allowed at any time so please don’t bring any firewood.
