The Montagu Park camping area is located near the Robbins Island Passage, some 29kms drive from Smithton. This is a great campground, is spacious and offers excellent opportunities for fishing or simply relaxing. A Circular Head appointed contractor is the authorised caretaker to manage the Reserve during the period it is open. This appointment allows them discretionary power to act on the Council’s behalf to undertake the collection of fees and attend to the general management of the Montagu Park Camping ground. The Caretaker collects fees between 8:30 am and 5.00 pm during the camping season at Montagu Recreational Reserve. Camping fees are to be paid to the Caretaker on demand. Alcohol is not to be consumed outside the immediate camp precinct. Unruly behaviour and excessive noise are not tolerated. Offenders will be requested to leave the camping area immediately. Campers are required to keep the immediate area around their site tidy at all times. All camping equipment is to be removed from the area when vacating the site or charges will apply. Camping is not permitted within 10 metres of the shed, toilets or BBQ areas. The local council or a delegated officer reserves the right to remove any campers and/or their possessions from the Reserve without any notice at any time. The long term occupation of any site is restricted to one family being immediate family members, ie. two adults and up to 3 dependent children. Additional campers to the site will be required to pay the appropriate fees. The occupation of any site is restricted to being within the defined boundaries of 10m2. If additional space is required then an additional site fee will be charged per night. Pets are to be on a leash at all times. Faeces are to be removed. All garbage must be wrapped, including disposable nappies. No generators are to be used between the hours of 11:00 pm and 7:00 am. PLEASE NOTE: Camping is not permitted annually during October to enable regular site maintenance to be carried out. The Montagu Park camping ground is open during the Peak Season (1 November to 30 April) and an onsite caretaker oversees the Reserve and fees can be paid directly to the caretaker on site. From 1 May to 30 September, the Montagu Park Recreation Reserve can be used for camping. However, there is no onsite caretaker and services are reduced. The maximum stay out of season is 2-weeks, and reduced fees apply. Payment out of season should be made at the Council offices, 33 Goldie Street Smithton, or by phone on 03 6452 4800.
