The campground at Lake Leake is 9 1/2 kilometres north of Swansea and accessible by signposts off the A3 Highway. The camping area at Lake Leake is an attractive grassed area located beside the Lake. Lake Leake campground has 4 level areas with power for caravans and motorhomes near the facilities; if demand is high overflow camping may be available at the nearby Oval. There are limited facilities at the Lake Leake campground. Leake is the name of both a lake and a small town in the eastern midlands of Tasmania. The lake can hold 22.1 gigaliters of water and was named after Charles Henry Leake a member of the Tasmanian Legislative Council. The lake is used for recreational fishing, brook trout, brown trout, and rainbow trout. Lake Leake is built on land owned by the Northern Midlands Council; the main purpose is to accommodate recreational anglers. Please note, dogs are OK but must be kept on a leash at all times. Unless you are under 14 years of age, to fish in any open public inland water in Tasmania you must hold a current Inland Angling Licence. A summary of the regulations is contained within the Tasmanian Inland Recreational Fishing Code. Lake Leake was created as the power supply for nearby Campbell Town. Lake Leake is a popular trout water, that is stocked annually with brook and rainbow trout. Fly fishing is popular at Lake Leake. There’s a small camping area between the boat ramp and the dam wall - you must be fully self-sufficient and carry your own firewood and drinking water.
