The campground at Penstock Lagoon is a true bush camping and a great Tasmanian wilderness experience. Camping at Penstock Lagoon is free; there is a gravel boat ramp located immediately next to the waterside camping area. There are no toilets or showers provided at Penstock Lagoon so campers must be fully self-sufficient. This location is best suited to tent-based camping; small campervans are OK however please again note there are no suitable amenities for campervans and caravans. Penstock Lagoon is a very shallow body of water with an average depth of only one metre. For fishermen, there are a number of regulations and recommendations relating to boating on Penstock Lagoon designed to manage environmental impacts. These regulations include the preferred outboard type and maximum recommended boat size. Penstock Lagoon is a fly-fishing-only waterway. There are designated camping areas at Penstock Lagoon; campers are encouraged to bring portable toilets or be sure to walk at least 100 metres from the water, dig a 15 centimetre hole and bury waste with the toilet paper. The maximum stay for camping or caravans is 14 days. Penstock Lagoon is located off the Marlborough Hwy (B11), 7 km west of Miena (Great Lakes). From the highway, the Penstock Lagoon is a further 500 m to the grassed camping areas located along the shore. No fires are allowed, so campers must carry a gas or fuel stove. Please note, camping is only allowed in designated areas and there are no facilities including no toilets or freshwater. To camp Penstock Lagoon you must be fully self-sufficient.
