The Tasmanian Government Huts at Mt Field National Park are located close to Lake Dobson and the Mt Field Ski Fields. The huts are located 15 kilometres from the park entrance along Lake Dobson Road, about a 10-minute walk from Lake Dobson – this road is gravel and is quite narrow. Drivers should take care when driving to and from Lake Dobson, especially during periods of snow or heavy rain. The Government Huts Mt Field National Park were established on the Lake Dobson Road in the 1940s, originally for the use of road workers constructing the original Lake Dobson road. The huts were then moved to the current location near Lake Dobson and have been used by school groups and walking clubs for more than 50 years. The five small huts provide low cost, simple and very basic accommodation. At this complex you will find a communal toilet facility as well as a woodshed and water tank – there are no showers. Facilities are minimal, consisting of bunks with mattresses, cold water and sink, wood heater (wood is supplied) table and benches.

There is no electricity, gas or other services and all persons using the huts must be fully self-sufficient. Fuel stoves and gas lamps are recommended, as well as the usual camping provisions. The deposit is fully refundable upon return of the key which can be picked up and returned to the visitor centre.
