Listing Details

Camping is very popular during the Christmas New Year period at Wineglass Bay in the Freycinet National Park, Coles Bay Tasmania. Allocation of campsites is decided by a ballot system drawn on 1 August each year, with notification around the middle of August. The ballot is used to allocate sites for the peak Summer Season from 18th December to 10th February and also during the busy Easter period. Only one entry per family/group is allowed for Summer, with a further entry also allowable Easter. The maximum stay is 10 nights for up to 6 people per site. Notification of the ballot draw will be as immediately after the draw as possible, usually by the middle of August. Applications can only be made by letter, fax, or e-mail. There is, however, usually space available in the designated backpacker camping area however bookings can’t be made, and there is no access for vehicles. To protect the environment camping is limited to within the barrier areas on allocated sites, and in the fragile sand dunes area, camping is restricted to tents only, with one car per site. Please Note: No caravans, campervans, or minibus are permitted in the sand dune area. Enter Wineglass Bay Ballot. The park offers a variety of basic powered and unpowered camping areas, campsites. None have shower facilities. Some sites are available all year round, though the Sand Dune and Honeymoon Bay campsites are only open over summer and Easter. Only the main campsite at Richardsons Beach has powered sites; outside of the main Summer and Easter holiday period, a self-registration system applies to camping. Booking and other details are found on the display board outside the park entry station. Additional cars must be parked in the overflow car parks located amongst the dune sites or in the car park at Ranger Creek. Please also note there are no laundry or hot shower facilities. See also:
