Camping Tahune Forest Reserve is available in a beautiful area by the banks of the Huon River, close to the world-renowned tourist attraction the Tahune Forest Airwalk. The campsite Tahune Forest is adjacent to the Tahune Airwalk car park on the Arve River. It is a small area with 5 campsites only but is suitable for campervans, caravans, and motorhomes. At this campground, you can set up camp in a campervan or tent and enjoy this beautiful riverside forest. There are facilities at the visitor centre and some firewood is supplied. River water should be boiled or treated before drinking. Tahune AirWalk is at the junction of the Huon and Picton rivers, deep in the forest 28 km west of Geeveston, along the scenic Arve Rd. The Tahune Airwalk visitor centre offers a cafe, toilets, barbecue facilities, and disabled access. The Tahune Forest Reserve Campsite is a short drive from Hartz Mountains National Park where you can take walk to the glacial lakes in the area. For more experienced walkers, you can try more challenging walks up to the highest peak of Hartz mountain (1255 m). The Hartz Mountain National Park facilities are very basic, with a toilet, water, and picnic shelter available near the entrance to the Waratah Lookout track. The shelter has an open fireplace, free gas barbecue, and picnic tables. Firewood is supplied; a recycling station is provided for rubbish collection. Campistes at the Tahune Forest Reserve are $20 per night. A new mountain bike trail was opened late in 2010. Bring your own bike for free or hire one at app. AUD25 for two hours, plus usual admission fees to the Tahune Airwalk. The Tahune Airwalk at Geeveston is app. a one-hour and 20-minute drive (app. 85 km) south of Hobart.
