The campsite North East River camping area Flinders Island is located app. 15 kilometres east of Killiecrankie. There are several tracks that lead off the North East Road to a series of camping spots next to the river. Take Care When Swimming -there are strong undertows in the area. North East River is popular for surfing Flinders Island, and also offers fantastic fishing and birdwatching. Flinders Island can be accessed by air from Launceston or Essendon across Bass strait with Sharp Airlines. Sharp Airlines offer regular, daily services from both Launceston Airport and Essendon Airport and also service three times a week from Hobart. There is an airfield located at Killiecrankie in the North East corner of Flinders Island. The airstrip enables pilots to land in the beautiful town of Killicrankie, a gateway to Flinders Island. This is a great camping area but offers very limited services (Basic toilets only). Public camping areas are available on Flinders Island; more information can be obtained by contacting the Tasmanian Department of Parks, Wildlife, and Heritage. Bookings are not possible for campsites on Flinders Island, however, it is important to note that camping is on a first in best dressed and it is advisable to check availability with the Flinders Island Parks and Wildlife Service.
