The Edgar Campground, Edgar Dam Lake Pedder, Strathgordon Southwest National Park Tasmania offers free camping with basic facilities in picturesque parts of Tasmania. The Edgar campground is suitable for big rigs including motorhomes, caravans, camper trailers, caravans, and tent-based camping. Please note, however, that the road into Edgar Campground off Gordon Road is gravel for a distance of 35 kilometres. And whilst generally in good condition, after heavy rain the road can become muddy and slippery and is windy in parts. There are 20 designated camping spots at the Edgar Campground Lake Pedder, all being non-powered. There is also a day-use picnic area with shelter at the Edgar camping area. Water is available; however, it must be treated before drinking. There are basic composting toilets at the Edgar Campground, which are generally clean and well looked after. There are a number of fireplaces scattered through the Edgar Dam campground, and wood is provided at the Edgar Campground. Dogs are strictly prohibited and the area is patrolled by a Ranger. A valid National Parks Pass is required and must be clearly displayed at all times. The area is patrolled by Rangers and fines may be issued if you don't have a valid pass. This is a truly spectacular part of Tasmania, with stunning scenery, however, please note that the weather conditions at Lake Pedder can be very changeable and very harsh at any time of the year, but particularly so during Winter. You can fish for trout in Lake Pedder, which is an artificial lure only Lake. Any person 14 years and old must have a valid fishing licence to fish for trout in Tasmania. The Mt Anne Bushwalk is also accessible on the road leading to the Edgar Campground Lake Pedder. The Edgar Dam campground is immediately near the wall of the Edgar Dam. Many of the campsites offer good shelter, and the area is flat and well grassed. The area can become muddy after heavy rain and snow.
