Wayatinah Camping

Listing Details

You will find the Wayatinah Campground by turning off the A10 Highway, app. 13 kilometres south of the southern Tarraleah access road. Travel along this road for a distance of 1.4 kilometres. Camping is available for a reasonable fee at the Wayatinah Caravan Park, which is set n the shores of Wayatinah Lagoon. The Wayatinah Lakeside Caravan Park is located in the central highlands of Tasmania midway between Ouse and Tarraleah and is surrounded by native bush. It offers 50 campsites, 12 of which are powered sites. Platypus and waterbirds can often be viewed around the lake and other native Australian wildlife often emerge from the bush at dusk or dawn. Wildflowers are abundant and pretty in spring and summer; the campground at Wayatinah is well-grassed, large, and offers excellent space and privacy. Wayatinah Power Station is a hydroelectric power station on the Lower Derwent River in Tasmania. It has three turbines, with a combined generating capacity of 38.25 MW of electricity. Wayatinah was commissioned in 1957. The Wayatinah Lakeside Caravan Park has been a favorite holiday destination for families for many years because of its safety for children from traffic, its extensive grounds and play areas, swimming pool, tennis court, and private boat ramp for access to the lake for kayaking and fishing. The nearby Wayatinah village has a small and challenging 6 hole golf course, and that is maintained by local volunteers. Wayatinah Lake and surrounding waterways are home to rainbow and brown trout, Atlantic salmon, and redfin perch - please note that redfin must not be released back into the water. There are lots of great bushwalks in the area including the walk into Taraleah Falls (10-minute drive and then a 30-minute walk on a well-marked path) for more energetic visitors.
