Huon Campground

Listing Details

The Huon Campground Lake Pedder, Strathgordon Southwest National Park Tasmania offers free camping with basic facilities in one of the most picturesque parts of Tasmania. The Huon campground is suitable for smaller rigs such as small caravans, camper trailers, caravans, and tent-based camping. There is also a day-use picnic area with shelter. Water is available; however, it must be treated before drinking. There are basic composting toilets at the Huon Campground. The Huon camping area is not very large and has 10 campsites only. Each campsite has a firepot, and wood is provided at the Huon Campground. Dogs are strictly prohibited and the area is patrolled by a Ranger. A valid National Parks Pass is required and must be clearly displayed. The area is patrolled by Rangers and fines may be issued if you don't have a valid pass. This is a truly spectacular part of Tasmania, with stunning scenery, however, please note that the weather conditions at Lake Pedder can be very changeable and very harsh at any time of the year, but particularly so during Winter. The Huon Campground is immediately adjacent to the car park for the start of the Port Davey Track. The Huon Campground is located some 30 kilometres off the main road to Strathgordon and is well signposted with the turnoff being some 43 kilometres before Strathgordon. The road to Huon Campground is gravel and is generally very good. The Huon Campground is 7 km past the Edgar Campground which is also accessed from this same turnoff. There are 10 sheltered sites in total at Huon Campground which are located at the end of a 1 km gravel entrance. Make sure you check out the amazing Scotts Peak Dam, which has boat launching facilities for access to Lake Pedder’s world-renowned trout waters.
