Trial Harbour is a small area on the West Coast of Tasmania located in the northern part of Ocean Beach, Tasmania Australia. It is an exposed and particularly vulnerable anchorage that is susceptible to the prevailing local weather of the Roaring Forties. The campground at Trial Harbour on Tasmania's rugged West Coast is located approximately 24 kilometres south of the road to Granville Harbour on the C249. Head west for a distance of almost 20 kilometres along a windy road; a travel distance of some 30-40 minutes. Please Note: This road is not suited to large caravans, campervans or motorhomes. When you reach the small settlement of Trial Harbour, follow the coast road to your right to find small grassed campsites, noting there are limited areas for camping. When you reach the bottom of the hill, a sign points you towards the camping area to the right. There is a small but decent variety of sites here ranging from open, protected, and if you are very lucky one well-protected site with open space and a view. For visitors with a 4WD, there is an opportunity to camp further down the beach, or alongside Little Henty River. Follow the road through the township, and around to the left to locate these sites. Keep going and after a few kilometres will see a small pile of bricks to your right. Turn onto the beach here and keep following it south until you reach the river. If you then follow the bank around to the left you will find several good campsites. If you travelling with a 4WD, you can choose to try and find a campsite further down Ocean Beach, or alongside Little Henty River. To reach these areas, follow the road through the small community of Trial Harbour and around to the left. Keep going along here and after a distance of app. 2 kilometres you will find a turn onto the beach. Travel south until you reach Little Henty River. Follow the bank around to the left where you will find several places along the shore to camp. Take care when driving on Ocean Beach, as sand can be soft in places. Recommended for experienced campers only. There are no costs to camp at Trial Harbour, dogs are OK if kept under control and there are very limited facilities - please ensure you are fully equipped to camp at a remote location where the weather can be very challenging.
