Stumpys Bay campsites are located on Tasmania’s beautiful far North East (close to Bay of Fires Camping) in the Mt William National Park. The National Park boasts beautiful beaches, fishing opportunities diving, beach walks and swimming with care. It is common to see native wildlife at dawn and dusk including the awesome Forester Kangaroo, Wombats and Echidnas. To access the North of the Mt William National Park, travel on the C845 road. From the small town of Gladstone, travel on the C843 in an easterly direction for 8 kilometres, before turning onto the C845 where you will travel for another 40 kilometres to the Anson’s Bay Road. You then head West for 19 kilometres on the C845. Stumpys Bay Camping Area number 1 is accessed via signposts off the C845 road, 8 kilometres north of the National Park. You need to register at the self-registration booth, then just over 2 kilometres east you will find an open campsite with only limited shade. It is recommended you carry a gas/fuel stove; you must also carry your own firewood. Campgrounds in this area have narrow access tracks that are not suitable for large caravans, campervans and motorhomes as vehicles may be seriously due to limited space and large overhanging tree branches. Small to medium-sized caravans and motorhomes can be accommodated at Stumpys 1, Stumpys 3, Stumpys 4 but not Stumpys No. 2 – Stumpys 2 is suited to tent and camper trailer-based camping only. No bookings are possible. Picnic tables and basic pit toilets are provided at all sites. Day shelter with gas barbecues can be found at Stumpys Bay No 4 only. ​​No bookings are taken, and deposit boxes are situated at Stumpys 1 and Deep Creek campground where fees are paid. Please have cash. Discounted week-long camping tags can be purchased at the Gladstone Store. A ranger patrols the campsite to ensure camping fees have been paid.

Fees:

• ​​1 or 2 people – $13.00 per night
• Each additional adult (18+) – $5.00 per night
• ​Each additional child (5-17) – $2.50 per night; under 5 no charge
• Family (2 adults, 3 children) – $16.00​A weekly discounted camping fee to cover up to 7 nights is available; for 1-2 adults the cost is $50.00 and each extra adult is $20.00, and each extra child is $10.00.

The Southern end of the Mt William National Park is where you will find the Eddystone Point Lighthouse, a must-see attraction on this potentially rugged part of the North East tip of Tassie. The Mt William National Park Bay camping area offers a number of open sites, and also some with shelter. There is a boat ramp in the area, campgrounds are suitable for motorhomes, campervans and caravans. Existing fire sites must be used. Bring your own water & firewood, and note there is no food anywhere close to this campground so ensure you are well-equipped.
