Manuka Camping Arthur River

Listing Details

This very large camping ground and camping area Manuka, Arthur River is located on the right just before you reach the Arthur River Ranger Station. It is a large grassed area and there are heaps of very good campsites with good shelter from the wind that can be strong in this area. Ideal for families, suitable campervans, motorhomes, and caravans. Manuka and Prickly Wattle campsites are located just out of the Arthur River community and both these camping areas feature excellent secluded sites, with most serviced by river water (water must be boiled) and pit toilets. Fire drums are provided, however, wood should be used sparingly and any fire restrictions are often in place during warmer summer months. Arthur River is a Tasmanian wilderness area densely forested with myrtles, sassafras, celery top pine, laurels, blackwood, and giant tree ferns that are part of the Tarkine wilderness. There are three camping grounds; Manuka, Peppermint, and Prickly Wattle, all operated by Parks and Wildlife Tasmania. The fishing is very good at Arthur River; Salmon from November to April and Trout in season. Mostly firm sand allows most vehicles to drive onto the beach to launch a boat or fish off the beach. Offshore islands interrupt the breaking waves, while rock pools are common and interesting. If the office is closed, there is a 24-hour self-service facility located at the Temma and Rebecca Rd intersection or at the Arthur River Parks and Wildlife Service Office. Two adults can stay at the Manuka campground, serviced site, 30 nights for a total of $120. Please note that the serviced campgrounds at Arthur River are basic; they offer water and toilet facilities only - campers are advised to bring their own camp showers. There are no rubbish bins provided, meaning campers must take their own rubbish with them. Fires are permitted except on days of a total fire ban when they are strictly prohibited. Firewood can be collected from beaches or purchased locally - there are no powered sites available at Manuka campground. Dogs are OK, but they must be kept under control at all times. From Arthur River, you can take a trip into the nearby forest for a 4wd expedition or take a cruise on the Arthur River. The river flows through tall eucalypt forests and rainforests out to the sea. Manuka, this large campground at Arthur River, is arguably the nicest of the 3 in the area and has sheltered spots that are suitable for large caravans, motorhomes, and campervans. Unserviced sites are $6 per night for 2 adults; each additional adult is $3. For school groups, the cost is $2 per night for unserviced sites and $2.50 for service.
