Cockle Creek Camping

Listing Details

There are several camping grounds at Cockle Creek and that all have pit toilets only and no water or firewood. In order as you are travelling South from Lune River are Gillams Beach Campground, Finns Beach Campground, Catamaran Campground, Ramsgate Campground, Cockle Creek Campground and Boltons Green campground. The Cockle Creek campground is located at Recherche Bay Nature Recreation area, just before the Cockle Creek bridge. Access to tank water (not treated) is permitted. National park entry fees apply beyond the Cockle Creek Bridge. No dogs, generators or fires are permitted inside the national park section of Cockle Creek (i.e., over the bridge) but are OK in the Recherche Bay Nature Recreation Area. Small campsites, plus a larger one at Boltons Green, have pit toilets. You will need to take your own drinking water. National park passes are available in Hobart, Huonville Parks Office Forest and Heritage Centre, Geeveston or Hastings Caves Visitor Centre. Road to Cockle Creek is often rough in places. Caravan access is possible with care, noting there is some 20km of gravel road past Lune River before you access the camping areas and where the road is narrow, can be wet and slippery and sometimes corrugated after heavy rain or long periods of dry weather. The Recherche Bay series of camping areas begin app. 8 kilometres North of Cockle Creek at the end of the road; which interestingly is the most southern point of any formed road on the planet! As you pass through the Recherche Bay area you will find lots of camping areas on the right-hand side of the road. Each area has a pit toilet, fireplaces, but no other facilities so make sure you take your own firewood and water. Huonville is the last major shopping centre where you will find a large supermarket (Woolworths). It is recommended that you pick up any supplies you will require whilst passing through Huonville. Huonville is 38 kilometres south of Hobart, and 85 kilometres before Cockle Creek.
