Cradle Mountain is a mountain in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, Tasmania, Australia. Cradle Mountain rises to a height of 1,545 metres above sea level and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Tasmania, largely due to its stunning natural beauty. The mountain is composed of dolerite columns, similar to many of the other mountains in the area. The area around the mountain is famous for bushwalks, both day walks and longer multi-night walks. It is also the start or finish of the famous Overland Track. The mountain is climbed frequently by tourists. It is a strenuous return hike from the Dove Lake car park, taking some 6-7 hours to complete. The climb up the rocky part of the mountain involves climbing over large boulders for several hundred metres. The entire climb is subject to bad weather that may arrive quickly and at any time of the day or year; even in summer. From the summit, there are spectacular 360° views, encompassing Dove Lake, Barn Bluff, and Mount Ossa.
